Child Safety Equipment Tips

When you first consider the idea of baby proofing your home it can feel like an overwhelming task to complete. Whether you are preparing for a baby of your own, or for a visiting relative there are many things that need to be taken into consideration. The best line of defense is to start from a baby’s perspective.

This literally means crawling around on your hands and knees so you can see what your little one might see. Whether you notice heavy objects that a toddler could pull on top of themselves or a sharp edge or exposed electrical circuit, the time spent in this position will be well worth the effort.

What’s the Best Way to Keep Kids out or Keep them in?

Gates are of course one of the easiest and most effective ways to either keep babies out of areas or keep them in one area. They are great to separate kids from animals and kids from cleaning closets, dangerous stairways or hallways that lead to adjoining rooms. Make sure you find a gate that is easy for you to manipulate but is sturdy enough to withstand your toddler’s attempts to bust free.

It doesn’t really matter what your gate is made of but make sure that it is void of horizontal slats that can be used as a foot hold for climbing. You can either use spring bound tension gates or permanently installed gates depending on your needs. This is one item you won’t want to be without.

Lock up the Cabinets & Drawers for Good!

Kids love to open and close drawers and cabinet doors of all kinds. An unopened door or drawer will spark a little ones curiosity and they will want to see whets inside. Purchasing latches and locks for cabinets and drawers will ensure that they cannot be opened. They come in plastic, metal and some are even magnetic. Just make sure that you can easily open the latch or else you will be prone to leaving them unsecure.

Keep Electrical Sockets Safe for Baby

All houses with children should have safety plugs and outlet covers installed on all outlets. As your baby grows they will quickly learn how to manipulate plugs and pull cords out of the wall. Outlet plate covers can protect your children from serious injury by making this an impossibility.

It is my advice to install these child safety plates right off the bat to avoid further work for yourself down the road. The safety covers also prohibit your child from sticking anything in the socket as well.

Tips to Child Proof Your Kitchen

Your kitchen is probably like most and is the center of your home. Toddlers learn quickly that the kitchen is where they get their yummy treats and they will love to explore all facets and appliances that are in the kitchen. Take extra time to child proof this room effectively.

This includes checking and testing the refrigerator, stove, dishwasher, trash compactor and any other appliance for security. Prepare your cabinets wisely so that your toddler will not be able to get a hold of cleaning supplies or dangerous utensils. There are also many ways to help avoid painful burns while cooking.

Are you Using This Device to Protect your Kids From Hot Bath Tap Water ?

If you don’t have an anti scald device on your hot water heater, you may think about using a cover for the hot water tap which will restrict it from being turned on. Non slip appliqués for the bottom of the tub or shower will not only help prevent your littlest ones from slipping but the adults in the house as well. They are cheap and easy to apply. When your kids are in the tub use an extra absorbent bath mat outside the bath to prevent slipping and give a little extra padding in case they fall.
